Coaching
Do you need a sounding board for dealing with issues in your organisation?
Do you lack confidence in facing new challenges or difficult decisions?
Have you got members of the team who are not performing in specific key areas?
Do you struggle to get people into training because you can't afford to take them away from their desk for a day or so?
What is coaching?
“A process that enables learning and development to occur and thus performance to improvement. To be a success a Coach requires a knowledge and understanding of a process as well as the variety of styles, skills and techniques that are appropriate to the context in which the coaching takes place.”
Eric Parloe
Common activities that happen during coaching are:
- The exploration of needs, motivations, skills and thought processes to assist the individual in making real, lasting change
- The use of questioning techniques to facilitate the client's own thought processes in order to identify solutions and actions rather than a directive approach
- Support in setting appropriate goals and methods of assessing progress in relation to these goals
- Observation, listening and questioning to understand the clients situation
- A consistent positive regard for the client – supportive and non judgemental with regards to views, lifestyle, approach and aspirations
- The development of personal competencies by encouraging a commitment to growth and change
- Discouragement of dependency on the coach
- Evaluation of progress
Benefits?
Coaching is generally popular amongst employees because it achieves a balance between fulfilling organisational goals whilst taking into account the personal development needs of individual employees. This is even more so with the trend for individuals taking greater responsibility for their persona and professional development.
Some of our clients utilise us for performance enhancement, and others for rectification of a performance issues. We are particularly proud of the success we have had with the latter, often resolving wider issues resulting in individual approaches.
The benefits an organisation of management coaching include:
- Managers have a learning experience that benefits both their interpersonal and management style
- The acquisition of practical tools that can be used immediately
- Managers have enhanced confidence in handling ‘tough' performance related conversations
- Providing clear thinking space to gain clarity and fresh perspectives
- Enhanced loyalty and reduced turnover of staff
